I <3 Dogs Tour Week 7: Favorite Dog Parks and Friendly Attractions

This week is all about your favorite Dog Parks and Friendly Attractions. So tell us Paws Gals what is your favorite dog spot. There’s always some local place to take your dogs for a spot of exercise.  Or a pet friendly attraction that is good for the family too! Breakout the yellow pages, call up your friends, and tell us where’s the best place a dog can hang out in your area?

Blog For Paws – Tues. (4/3)

Prizes up for grabs this week: A copy of Bill Cameron’s latest release County Line. All you have to do for a chance to win is comment on any of the posts from this week here on Small Town Rescue or our participating blogs between 4/2/12- 4/15/12. *All commenters throughout the tour are entered for prizes. So comment on the post that intrigues you the most or comment on all of them.

County Line- When the steadfast Ruby Jane Whittaker drops out of sight, dogged ex-cop Skin Kadash sets out to discover what drove the woman he loves to leave her life behind so suddenly and without explanation. The discovery of a dead man in Ruby Jane’s apartment and an attack by a mysterious stalker send Skin from Portland to California — and into a charged encounter with her one-time love Peter McKrall. As questions mount and answers grow increasingly out of reach, Skin and Peter cross the country on a desperate journey deep into Ruby Jane’s haunted past — and toward an explosive confrontation which will decide their future.

Critically-acclaimed mystery novelist Bill Cameron is the author of the dark, gritty mysteries County Line, Day One, Chasing Smoke and Lost Dog—featuring irascible Portland homicide cop Skin Kadash. In a starred-review of the 2012 Spotted Owl Award winning County Line, Publishers Weekly said, “Contemporary sharp-edged noir doesn’t get much better than Cameron’s mournful novel featuring ex-cop Skin Kadash.” And Library Journal called County Line, “A perfect fit for Archie Mayor and William Kent Krueger fans.”

I <3 Dogs Blog Tour Week 5: The Gorgeous, the Active, and the Unique. Your favorite dog breed.

Shepards, Great Danes, Shiz Tsus, Chihauhuas, Blue Heelers, and Beagles. There are hundreds of dog breeds in existence, and different ones are attractive to different people. Some people base their choice in a dog breed by temperment, for others it’s size, and some simply adopt a dog because those eyes and face just melt their heart. This week it’s about the breeds you like, the ones that scare you and those unique ones that just need someone to love them (Chinese Water Dog is on my unique list).

I <3 Dog Blog Tour Week 4: What I know about dog rescues?

This week is about what you know. Of course, Pawsibilities is a rescue so we know a ton about it. Our post Wednesday will share a day in the life of story for those unfamiliar with how our rescues operate. Life in dog rescue can be a bit dirty, emotional, and fulfilling. Definitely a difficult challenge, especially if your heart is easily engaged. In the meantime you can visit the other participants and find out more about their rescue knowledge.

Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. After earning a master’s degree in social work from LSU, she worked in a mental hospital, counseled birthmothers as an adoption coordinator, and did management recruiting in her PJs. But she always returned to writing. Though she’ll forever be a New Orleans girl at heart, she now lives in Dallas with her husband and son. If she’s not working on her latest sexy story, you can find her reading, watching reality television, or indulging in her unhealthy addiction to rockstars concerts. Her debut novel, CRASH INTO YOU, is now available from Berkley Heat. To learn more about Roni and her books visit her website at www.roniloren.com

Winners for Wk 2 and Wk 3 prizes will be announced this Wednesday (sorry for the delay but the doggies have been demanding more attention lately).

Every little bit helps, and we’ll cover how that works in a post this week. You’d be amazed at how the smallest donation can have the effect of a lifetime. Cheers to all and we look forward to the stories and comments this week!

I <3 Dogs Wk 3: The Gals favorite pet related media

As mentioned in our Monday post this week is all about our favorite pet media. Songs, movies, books, etc… anything of that nature that inspires the heartfelt feelings we have toward the animals that have, do, and will love us in our lives. So here’s the Gals of Pawsibilities favorite choices:

Monica

Where the Red Fern Grows because it shows just how loyal a dog will be to you when you be loyal to them.

Lora

Turner and Hooch and K-9

Landra

Homeward Bound, Fox and the Hound, and Shiloh. All 3 movies made me cry like a little baby. Of course Shiloh is a book made into a movie, and I cried when I read the book too. But The Fox and the Hound is one I remember from childhood with great fondness. A friendship of unlikely circumstances. “We’ll always be friends forever!”- Todd

Other honorable mentions include Old Yeller, which is another movie to bring tears to the eyes. Of course Lassie, who can forget such a loyal and helpful friend. I’m sure there are many more out there, so feel free to hope in and comment about your favorites. If you loved one of our choices tell us why? What memories link to those films?

Remember for your comment you’re entered in winning this week’s prizes: A copy of Katharine Ashe’s newest historical romance When a Scot Loves a Lady or a $15 Starbucks Giftcard. All you have to do is comment on any of our posts, or the participating blog’s posts this week (3/5-3/11). Winner will be announced next Monday (3/12). For a list of participating blogs check out our Monday post.

I <3 Dogs Tour Week 2: Tell us your favorite pet story!

Remember that little beagle that used to follow you around the woods in the summertime, or the basset hound that would chase your little brothers sniffing their butts because of dirty diapers? Maybe it’s that fuzzball cat that kept your feet warm in winter. Whatever the animal, whenever the animal tell us about your favorite pet. You don’t have one? Did you ever admire a friends pet? There’s lots of options here, so don’t be shy and pipe up! The rescue gals and I will have our favorite pet stories up on Wednesday so be sure to stop by and read our praise for the animals that have touched our hearts.

I <3 Dogs Wk 1: It's Saturday!

That’s right, the weekend is here! What do dogs and weekends have in common? Pet adoption fairs! The weekend is the most popularCourtesy of adoptapet.com time to put on an adoption fair. Let’s face it, most of the folks in the rescue world have other jobs during the week or are dedicated to vet runs, transporting, and half a dozen other activities all in the name of the furry folk! Saturday’s are the day that these folks gather at Petco’s and other locations (dependent on your state) to show off the animals they genuinely love and want to see placed in a forever home.

Pawsibilities typically holds adoption fairs on Saturdays, courtesy of the wonderful Petco in Lees Summit, MO. Each one is an event of its own because other rescues show up to participate too. It’s a great place to talk dogs, even if you’re not planning on adopting. A great source of info, and volunteering to help with one is extremely rewarding. There’s a ton of planning and organization that goes into each one. Bathing the dogs, making flyers or cards with the dog’s info (history, stats, temperament, etc.), gathering of needed materials (applications, business cards, pens), and so much more.  Every rescue has their own style and action, but the one thing they all want is to make sure they’re equipped with the necessary things to help get their furry friends noticed.

I’m continuously humbled by the effort that goes into each adoption fair, and any rescue that holds them on a regular basis gets my undying appreciation because it’s not easy. Though the most successful ones are the ones that give visitors the impression of easy and organized. So my questions for you: Have you been to a pet adoption fair? Did you adopt a furry friend there? Have you ever volunteered to help with a pet fair?

Don’t forget there’s still two days to comment on any of the posts (ours or our participants) for week 1 and get entered in this week’s prize giveaways. What’s up for grabs: A e-book copy of  PRINCIPLE DESTINY by David A. Cleinman, or a $15 gift card to the ultimate Frappaccino destination, Starbucks.
